I am a co owner with my parents to an existing HDB flat, my new 4RM bto and my parents HDB Studio Apartment are arriving soon, can i and my parents collects keys before selling the old co own HDB? I have enough CFP to made downpayment for my own 4rm hdb, however, my parents will need the funds in order to make payment to their Studio Apartment. Therefore, can i and my paremts collect key inadvance?

Hi,
To HDB, as long you can enough fund to make the down payment, key will be issue. Hence for your parent, HDB can keep the house for a given period. Your parent can still stay at the flat until the house is sold.

In this case, hdb will likely require you all to sell off the flat first before you can collect the keys to the parents studio unit. I have worked on similar cases and will be happy to share more on the best approach with more details.

I get what you mean... unfortunately, you will need to sell the current HDB flat first in order to move in to the new one.

With a well planned sale timeline, it is possible for your parents to move only once.

Hi Norman,

For keys collection, you will need to make a full payment before HDB will release the keys to you. If you do not have sufficient funds, you may take an interim loan from HDB to complete the purchase first and collect the keys. For your parent's case, it may be more tricky as they will not be eligible for loan due to their age. The best way forward is to delay the keys collection until you manage to secure a buyer for your HDB.

You need to fully pay the house before getting key. You can extend stay for your HDB up to 3 months so that your parent have ample time to move, however this extension of stay is subject to buyer agreement.
